Wrestlers participated in their second quad last week on Wednesday, Dec. 13th at Woodman school. It was excellent to see the progression of our wrestlers as they used their skills and were put to the test with longer matches. Many of our wrestlers had wins based on points and a few even had pins to take the win.
We have 2 practices this week, Monday and Tuesday, and then start the year back with a practice on Tuesday, January 9th and Thursday, January 11th. (Please note any students on Wrestling looking to try out for Basketball as well are asked to attend the basketball try outs as a priority). Happy Holidays. The basketball season is fast approaching and there is a lot of excitement with the students to get this season started. There will be four teams, Jr and Sr for both boys and girls. The Senior teams will be made of grade 8 and/or 9, while the Junior teams will likely be grade 7 and/or 8, but the grade 6 students also have the opportunity to try out as well for juniors. Members are chosen based on their skill, sportsmanship, and team dynamics. The number of athletes on each team is up to the coach and will
The first week of tryouts is the first week back from break. The coaches will have both the Jr's and Sr's in tryouts at the same time. All dates are on the calendar, but the first week dates are the following: Tuesday, January 9th: Boys Basketball Tryouts 3:15 to 4:15pm Wednesday, January 10th: Girls Basketball Tryouts 3:15 to 4:15pm Thursday, January 11th: Boys Basketball Tryouts 3:15 to 4:15pm Friday, January 12th: Girls Basketball Tryouts 12:30 to 1:30pm (Students to bring a lunch to eat from 12 - 12:30 pm in designated area, and then begin at 12:30pm). All students trying out need to be changed into athletic clothing and footwear, and be ready to go at the above stated start time. It would also be good for them to bring their own water bottle labelled with their name, but of course there are numerous water fountains if they don't. The wrestling team had their first quad meet on Tuesday. The athletes were able to finally put all of their practicing into use and see what it is like to be in a match against other students. We had some students win all their matches while others may not have won matches, but were able to gain some valuable experience.
Our next quad is this upcoming week already on Wednesday, December 13th at Woodman School. We will practice Monday and Tuesday to prepare, and apply all the new progressions at this next meet. |
