The only team in action in week 4 was the Sr Girls' Team while all other teams had a bye this week and did not play. They were catching up on a missed game cancelled due to weather. They continued their undefeated streak.
Check back early next week to see how they did this week (week 5). SENIOR BOYS haven’t been updated in a while so we’re providing a long awaited update this week.
Week One: The first game of the season was an eye-opening experience for our team. We faced a tenacious Robert Warren team that dominated the first half. As our boys adjusted to the compete level required, the second half was much more competitive. At the final buzzer we found ourselves down 19 points, but valuable lessons were taken from the experience. Our second game had us squaring off with Harold Pannabaker Panthers. The 67s came out with intensity and purpose, keeping the game close throughout the first half. Through cohesive ball pressure and offensive patience the 67s pulled of a 10 point win. Week Two: This week saw us facing off against familiar foes in the form of the RT Alderman Blues. Taking on former teammates provided an additional motivational element for both teams. It was the Blues who jumped out to a lead that our team was unable to recover from. The game provided opportunity to work on our full court press, which at times, was very successful. Playing in back to back games proved to be a stiff challenge for our squad. The top ranked MacKenzie Highlands Legends stormed out to a large lead in the first quarter. Our fatigue was evident through the score as well as the number of injuries our team faced. Ultimately this loss serves as an example of the level of discipline and fitness we'll require in order to be successful. Week Three: The 67's played a hard-nosed first half against Wilma Hansen squad. Their defensive efforts paid of in the second half as the Hawks began to tire and turn the ball over more frequently. At the final buzzer the 67's earned a 10 point win. The second game of the evening saw the 67's facing a tough Willow Park team. Drawing from the energy of the home crowd, the 67's came out strong. Strong outside shooting and consistent rebounding allowed Willow Park to take a 10 point lead that they never relinquished. This week the boys have a bye and are preparing for a pivotal game against Martha Cohen on the 23rd. SENIOR GIRLS missed their games two weeks ago due to the weather cancellations. Week Three: The Sr. Girls' team continued to show hard work and dedication by winning both of their games last week at home. It was fantastic to see the support from our DGS community! Our first game was a tight match, however our girls kept their heads in the game and pulled out a win. They worked very hard and persevered throughout…well done girls! Their next game was last night at Dr. Martha Cohen, update coming soon. JUNIOR BOYS Week Three: The Jr. Boys won our first games where it mattered the most - at home! Our work in the defensive zone has paid off resulting in low points and fouls against us, and we are gaining more confidence in the offensive zone. We have scheduled an additional practice for Wednesday mornings from 7:15-8:15, so that we may further develop our skills and keep our playoff hopes alive! Moving forward, we will be working on some plays we can execute in game time situations. We did not play this week due to Family Day, but will be playing one game next week at Willow Park school. We hope to see you there! JUNIOR GIRLS had a bye in week two but played last week. Week Three: The jr girls were the only team to not have home floor advantage last week playing at RTA. They lost to Mckenzie Highlands but won 25-15 against RTA! We will get to see them play at home on March 6th. Come out to cheer them on. The Sr. Girls' team got off to a hot start in week 1, winning both of their games. Both games were close which forced the team to stay focused and work hard as a unit. Sitting in first place after week one is a confidence builder - now to keep up the strong play for week 2!
The Jr. Girls’ team played our first two games last Tuesday. We tied Wilma Hansen 24-24 in our first game! We lost to Willow Park but showed excellent perseverance and had fun in our second game! No games this week. We play next Tuesday at RTA:) The Jr. Boys Basketball team has played their first three games in the last couple of weeks. While not victorious, we are learning new skills in regards to offensive breakouts, defensive man coverage, and skill work with dribbling, passing, and shooting. The team is considering an additional practice to further develop our skills, and will be consulting with players this week on a possible date and time. We look forward to playing host next week and hope to see members of the DGS community out supporting! |
