The competitive wrestling season has come to an end. We will wrap up the team with a celebration on Tuesday, January 30th from 3:30 to 4:45 pm at the school. Wrestlers should come prepared for some wrestling and we will finish with a pizza gathering in the foods room.
I would like to take time to congratulate all of our wrestlers for the hard work they put forward this season. It was fantastic to see them progress with each quad throughout the season. There were 12 schools who attended our divisional. Here are the results from the divisional meet: Novice Girls: We only had one novice girl on the team but she was very committed. She placed 3rd in her pool. We hope to draw more girls to the team next year. Novice Boys: The novice boys had a large team and were able to place 2nd overall only 4 points off of the two schools that tied for first. Individual placements varied within their pools but we had a few first and second place finishers within their pools. Senior Boys: Both of our senior boys finished 1st in their pools, and even with only 2 competing, they were able to finish as the 4th place school overall. This week we continue to have wrestling practices along with the third Quad meet, and basketball tryouts.
Wrestling: The wrestling season is approaching it's end. Wrestlers have their final two practices this week on Monday and Thursday, with the third quad meet on Tuesday. The Quad is at Marshall Springs School with wrestling occuring from 5 to 7 pm. Next week, the practice on Monday, January 22nd is cancelled as our mats will have been picked up already to go to Southland Leisure Centre to be ready for divisionals on Tuesday, January 23rd. The divisionals are during the morning, so all wrestlers attending will be missing classes that morning. Teachers will be informed. Like all athletics events, wrestlers need to arrange their own transportation to and from the event. The wrestlers are asked to arrive between 8:30 and 8:40 am, not before, to ensure a coach is present to supervise. Warm up will begin as the wrestlers arrive. The actual wrestling will begin at 9 am and can continue until 12:30 pm. Wrestlers should have a water bottle and small snacks for the morning. Wrestlers need to be picked up promptly at 12:30 pm to return to school for lunch and afternoon classes. Lastly, the Wrap Up Celebration has been moved to Tuesday, January 30th so that we will have our mats back and can use them as part of the wrap up. Basketball: The basketball try outs continue this week and will move into practices as the teams are made. Sr. Girls are trying out on Monday and Wednesday while Jr. girls are just on Monday, and boys are on Tuesday and Friday. There is no basketball on Thursday because of set up for the Band Concert. |
