As we get closer to the end of the year, the final two athletics teams are getting ready to get started with try outs. Try outs can commence the first week back from March Break, Badminton on Tuesday, April 3rd, and Track & Field on Wednesday, April 4th.
Coaches are having meetings now and setting up schedules which will be released before the break so all students are aware. The sign up process to gauge interest has already begun as well. All grade 6 through grade 9 PE classes have been told about the teams and asked to sign up if interested. The current sign up sheets are not mandatory, nor do they hold a student to trying out, so if your child wants to try out but missed the day in PE they signed up, they are still welcome to just show up at the first try out and be added at that point. Good Luck 67's, let's finish the year with a strong showing at both. JUNIOR GIRLS
Last week we played two games. We won against Dr Martha Cohen and lost against Willow Park. This week we played two home games!! We won 36-19 against Wilma Hansen and won our second game 29-27 against RTA. We are 4th in the standings and are in the playoffs!! We play Wilma Hansen at RTA at 5:30pm on Monday, March 12th for our first play off game. YAY Junior Girls!! JUNIOR BOYS The Jr. Boys basketball team has participated in three games over the past two weeks. While our team was unsuccessful in the result, the players applied two different defensive systems into game type situations (pressure defense and help defense). Our defensive zone coverage was beneficial in limiting other teams chances throughout our last three games. However with the loss on the final game, our team lost the tiebreaker with our opponent. Therefore, our team will unfortunately not experience playoffs. Looking forward to next year, our team focus will be centered on teamwork, leadership, and commitment. To wrap up our season, we will hold a team “wrap-up” party on Friday March 9th at 12:30 in the afternoon (our regular practice time). We will hold a “teachers vs. players” game, with pizza provided afterwards. We will wrap up our party around 1:45-2:00pm. Our team will also take a photo for the yearbook. Please ensure all players are returning their jerseys and shorts to Mr. Klein or Mr. Rokosh. Thanks everyone for the fantastic season, and we look forward to next year! Mr. Rokosh & Mr. Klein SENIOR GIRLS The senior girls participated in a tough match on Thursday, March 1st against Willow Park. With a close match-up the whole game and being down by a basket in the final seconds, the girls were able to follow through and implement practice plays into the game and tie the game up in the final seconds. The coaches were very proud of the senior girls! We hope to keep our #1 ranking as we head into playoffs next week! The girls have their last regular season games tonight, stay tuned for when their first play off game will be. SENIOR BOYS The senior boys took on a familiar foe in the Martha Cohen Chimeras last Wednesday night. Early on, the Chimeras were hot from beyond the arc, resulting in a 15 point lead midway through the second quarter. After trimming the margin to 8 points by halftime the 67s demonstrated their commitment to the game plan by continuing to apply ball pressure. As the game wore on, the 67s forced turnovers and fought hard for rebounding position, resulting in easy baskets. At the final buzzer, the 67s secured an 11 point win. This week the team travelled to Mackenzie Highlands to face the top ranked Legends. After last night's play, the boys have finished regular season in 5th place. Their first play off game will be held on Tuesday, March 13th at Dr. Martha Cohen School. They will be playing at 5:30 pm taking on Panabaker School. |
