Since returning from Winter Break, the students have already been active in a few different physical activities and sports.
To start off, all students were in Dance. The students learning some moves through line dancing, and then were given the chance to create their own dances. Most students were able to display their dances to the others within their own classes as they wrapped up the unit. Students at Dr. George have some rhythm and cool moves. This unit was also a great way to have them work on communication within a group and build those skills. Now, students are finishing up a sport-based rotation. Grade 4's learned basic skills and rules to play basketball, table tennis and tchoukball. The Grade 5's and 6's built on skills learned last year for basketball and table tennis. The 7's, 8's and 9's had a choice to do 2 sports out of basketball, indoor lacrosse, table tennis and tchoukball/handball. By March break, or right afterwards, all students will be moving into Track and Field. Grade 6-9 will rotate through all of the events that middle school students compete in if on the athletics team. Grade 4 and 5 will rotate through lead up activities to prepare them for the actual events when they enter the upper grades. We are hoping that the snow will melt quickly and we will be able to get outside once again to give them the full experience of running and throwing in the wide open space of our school yard. |
